My role in “Paathshala” is just about 30-40 minutes: Shahid Kapoor

Mumbai, Shahid Kapoor’s “Paathshala”, which has been ready for the last one year, will finally hit screens next year and the actor says his role is substantial even though it is not long enough.

“‘Paathshala’ is small in comparison to some other films that I am doing. Moreover, I not a quintessential hero in the film. However, it isn’t as if I have a special appearance in the film, as has been speculated by some. I have a substantial role that lasts for 30-40 minutes in the film,” Shahid, who had two releases — “Kaminey” and “Dil Bole Hadippa” this year –, told IANS.

“Paathshala” was earlier being co-produced by choreographer-turned-filmmaker Ahmed Khan with Big Pictures. However, as per current developments, Eros International would be presenting the film.

The first look of the film was revealed a year ago with “Karzzzz”. It was expected that the film would release in January 2009, but it continued to move ahead. Directed by award-winning Marathi film director Milind Ukey, “Paatshala” is expected to release in the first half of 2010.

“Yes, the film moved from Big Pictures to Eros and they would be making plans to line up the film in a proper manner. However, I am sure they would have the right campaign in place for the film’s release. The film has to be protected and released when there is no other film of mine coming up,” said Shahid, who plays a teacher in it.

The film brings together Ayesha Takia with Shahid after “Dil Maange More” and “Fool-N-Final”. Incidentally, the two had worked together years ago as child artists in the famous commercial for the health drink Complan.

The film also stars Nana Patekar along with child artists Swini Khara, Ali Haji and Dwij Yadav.

Set against the Indian education system, “Paathshala” deals with contemporary and socially relevant issues regarding children. It claims to carry a heartfelt message for children, parents and teachers.

“It’s a very socially relevant film and talks about the education system in the country. I am really happy to have played a role in it. I have seen the rushes of the film and really cried throughout. I get really emotional when watching a film. Even during ‘Taare Zameen Par’, I cried throughout and was looking around me if anyone was watching me,” he said.

Unlike “Taare Zameen Par”, which was shot on real locations, “Paathshala” was filmed on a set. To give it an authentic look, Khan had erected a massive set of a school at Film City — it consisted of class rooms, dormitories, principal’s cabin, staff rooms, half a dozen huge corridors, basket ball court, garden, assembly hall, music room and canteen.

Yuvarajyam Producer raped receptionist

Upcoming film ‘Yuva Rajyam’ producer Haran Hussein Saied has raped his employee and threatens to kill her if she reveals it to anyone. It’s yet shocking news for Tollywood which recently has suffered a big jolt with actress Bhuvaneswari case, who was caught red handed doing flesh business.

Haran Hussein Saied owns the ‘Aasara Niraman India’ a film production house in Hyderabad. A 19 year old girl who is working in it as Coordinator cum Receptionist has approached radical Hindu Organisation Viswa Hindu Parishath seeking protection from the producer. She has appealed them to save her life from the producer who owes to kill her if she goes against his wish.

“I was asked to accompany him for inviting the politicians and film industry people for the audio release function scheduled for Thursday. When, we finished our work he invited me to join him for a dinner at his home, and I couldn’t guess what his intention was? I followed him into his house where he raped me and threatens to kill. I was shocked with this incident. I don’t want to let him go free. Because of his threat, I felt that only VHP can give me protection from him and can give a fight to him.”

VHP leaders promised to fight for her till the culprit lands behind the bars. It is surprising that, the victim prefers to approach VHP rather than lodging a complaint with local police, which gives a twist in the case leading to Hindu Muslim problems.

'Ek Niranjan' Movie Review

Rating: 2.75/5
Banner:
Adithya Ram Movies
Cast: Prabhas, Kangana Ranaut, Sonu Sood, Tanikella, Makrand Deshpande, Mukul Dev, Posani, Ali, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji, Abhinayasri, Sunil, Venu Madhav etc
Music: Mani Sharma
Cinematography: Shyam K Naidu
Editing: M R Varma
Fights: Stun Siva
Story, dialogues, screenplay, director: Puri Jagannadh
Producer: Adithya Ram
Release date: 29/10/2009

The Puri- Prabhas team has come up once again after ‘Bujjigadu’ and this is a litmus test for both since they have not been able to score success lately. How good is ‘Ek Niranjan’? Let us see..

Story:
Chotu (Prabhas) is an orphan who makes an earning by catching hold of criminals and taking commission from the police. He is also in search of his parents and keeps pampering Chidambaram (makrand) his guardian to reveal the truth since he kidnaps Chotu when he is a baby. Things change when Sameera (kangana), a music teacher enters into his life and along with her also come Johnny Bhai (sonu), Kailash (mukul) and others. What is the link between all? Does Chotu get to meet his family in the end? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Prabhas:

Yet another energetic performance from him but he needs to change his dialogue delivery which has become repetitive and sometime rolling. The idea of getting closer to the masses is a good thought but this doesn’t work always. He can recollect his diction for ‘Chatrapathi’ which had more punch and impact.

Kangana
Though not very pretty, she has got an innocent sex appeal making her attractive. She looks just average and did justice to her character given her debut in Telugu.

Sonu Sood
Interesting and entertaining performance, his sequences with Brahmaji are a highlight. He seems to be filling the gap of Raghuvaran in a large way with his body language and voice.

Brahmanandam, Ali, Abhinayasri
The trio has come up with a comedy track but that has not been able to impress. Both Brahmi and Ali look stereotype. Abhinayasri looks shapely and looks seductive in few scenes.

Mukul Dev, Makrand Deshpande
These Bollywood imports were not required as their characters didn’t have much to offer. Not really sure why they had to be roped in. Makrand is a highly talented actor but his caliber was not used properly.

Others like Posani, Venu Madhav, Sunil did their bit as required but not very appealing.

Tanikella Bharani and Sangeetha are ok.

Technically, the highlight in the movie is music. All departments functioned well and the production values are also impressive. The director seems to have not kept full energies in some areas of script. Hence the drop down in entertainment graph here are there.

Highlights:
Prabhas
Sonu Sood
Puri’s Dialogues
‘Amma Ledu…’ Lyrics
Music

Disappointments:
Ali-Brahmanandam comedy track
Choice of heroine
Screenplay

Analysis:
The movie promises good entertainment in the take off but the graph suffers in the flow. The problem in the movie is with the lack of comedy carried by comedy artistes. The actual comedy was worked well with Prabhas and Sonu Sood. And it is obvious that the choice of heroine has reduced the scope of attracting family audience to theatres. It’s bluntly limited to mass audiences and as there is no potential for the movie to allure repeat-viewers, the purpose wouldn’t work completely.

First half of the movie is entertaining but the second half is disturbing to some extent. The graph has fallen down when the narration goes to Bangkok. Puri seems to be so obsessed with Bangkok in his films and hardly understands the need to roll cameras there every time. The climax gets mixed response- some feel that it’s subtle to end the movie that way but others may feel it’s incomplete.

On a whole, it’s a movie that hasn’t reached expectations although entertained to some extent.

Vishnus ‘Saleem’ Audio on Nov 11

Y V S Chowdary after a long gap, now he is making a movie with Manchu Vishnu and starrer Ileana. It was the first film that Manchu Vishnu is directed by YVS. The film is going to be of high standards to ensure a big comeback for both of them. The very talented Sandeep Chowtha has given the music for this film. The title Saleem itself is a very popular for all the people and it is very nearer to the mass audience. The film is produced by their own banner Prasanna pictures with Mohan babu as producer and done an important role in the film. Aamir’s guest appearance

Last year too, Aamir and Rakeysh had done a short film, to propagate tourism which was well-received. And that, Aamir thought, was the end of it till the tourism industry recently expressed the need to have powerful faces, names and images to counter the drubbing that the image of India as a paradise for tourists has taken.

When Rakeysh was approached again by the tourism ministry, he again approached Aamir, who agreed to do it. Rakeysh says, "Aamir has become a brand ambassador for tourism in our country. He saw the importance of his face and voice to call tourists back with the entire Atithee Devo Bhava (guest is God) campaign. We needed Aamir to give strength to our image as a hospitable country."

This time, Rakeysh will be shooting two more short films for the tourism department. "Promoting tourism is in a way, also promoting our film industry because any cultural exchange helps cinema. All of us love taking care of guests and Aamir’s face and personality are very inviting for tourists," he adds.
